FIM W2RC: Nacho earns Hero status
There is a first time for everything, and history will remember Ignacio Cornejo as the first W2RC rider to win stages with two different manufacturers. The Chilean, who had already picked up six victories with Honda, claimed his seventh in Mengoub/Bouârfa today, this time on a Hero. His unparalleled navigational skills catapulted him to the vanguard of the W2RC entrants in the final stretch of the stage. He has also been a reliable water carrier for the Rally GP world championship leader, Ross Branch. The Botswanan has intercepted the glide slope to the FIM title and now he just needs to land at the finish tomorrow.
FIA W2RC: Pertegarini smashes the glass ceiling
Valentina Pertegarini has laid down a marker for women everywhere in the sport by becoming the first female W2RC champion! The Argentinian has secured the co-driver title in the Challenger class after establishing an unassailable lead over Oriol Vidal (still on the mend) and Carlos Sachs. The driver title in the same class was also decided yesterday, with Rokas Baciuška (Can-Am Factory) taking the throne. In contrast, the FIA world championship for drivers remains theoretically open, although Nasser Al Attiyah (The Dacia Sandriders) seems unlikely to miss out on a third title. Sebastián Guayasamín (BE Racing) and Yasir Seaidan (MMV) are neck and neck in SSV. The verdict will be pronounced tomorrow!
