FIM W2RC: Branch focuses on the championship
The winner of stage 1, Ross Branch (Hero MotoSports), decided to play it safe today. The Botswanan has a laser-like focus on the Rally GP world championship. Now that Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda) is out of the race, Branch, the championship leader, will claim the throne as long as he manages to finish the Rallye du Maroc. This fact lies at the core of his strategy: "I'm trying to stay upright and get to the finish line. It can be frustrating to see people overtake you, but I need to be smart and think long-term, try and stay focused on the road book and avoid any mistakes."
FIA W2RC: The title is Baciuška's to lose
Rokas Baciuška (Can-Am Factory) has a 42-point cushion over Nicolás Cavigliasso (BBR) at the top of the Challenger championship. 40 points will remain up for grabs after stage 3: 30 for winning the Rallye du Maroc outright and 5 for each stage win left (for a total of 10). In other words, Baciuška will secure the crown if he finishes ahead of the Argentinian on Wednesday or concedes fewer than 3 points. The Lithuanian, a two-time champion in SSV (2022 and 2023), could be hours away from a historic feat: becoming the first competitor to win the W2RC in two different classes!
