- Kevin Benavides is one of the Dakar's superstars. The Argentine has won the motorbike category twice: in 2021 with Honda and in 2023 with KTM, thus fulfilling his dream of winning the rally with two different makes.
- Kevin's story began with his dazzling start to the 2016 Dakar. He won a stage on day 3 and finished the rally in an astonishing 4th place overall. But just 15 days before the start of the 2017 Dakar, Kevin broke his hand during training and had to withdraw.
- In 2018, he fought neck and neck with the top riders until he got lost on stage 10, losing his chances of victory. He still finished in 2nd place. The following year, in the Peruvian Dakar, Kevin received a three-hour penalty with three stages to go. This, along with an engine change, dropped him to 12th place in the last South American Dakar. Two months later, he was reclassified to 5th place.
- After winning the 2021 Dakar, Kevin started 2022 poorly. Having switched from Honda to KTM, he lost almost an hour on the first stage and had to fight his way back up the standings. After 10 days, he was in 5th place, just a few minutes from the lead. Unfortunately, an engine failure forced him to retire.
- In 2023, the Argentine won in a nail-biting finish after starting the final stage just 12 seconds behind Toby Price.
- On May 11, 2024, Kevin suffered a severe accident while training with his brother Luciano at the Mantillo MX Park circuit in Salta. He was hospitalized for several days with a guarded prognosis due to a severe head injury.
- Kevin is not giving up. Despite his severe injuries, the KTM rider hopes to line up at the 2025 Dakar in the best possible physical condition, motivated by the idea of teaming up with his brother Luciano.
